The One Year Session

The last of the Milestone sessions is your baby’s first birthday, and it’s always a fun one to celebrate!

Over the past decade of taking portraits of babies and kids the Cake Smash session has always been a huge favorite.

Cake Smash

Yes, these are messy and crazy, and fun. I supply the cake for you as well. To begin with I usually take a few ‘clean’ outfit photos, and then we just get all messy with baby smashing the cake… which is usually over in 5 minutes!

Although these photos are super cute and make us laugh, it’s just one option for celebrating baby’s first birthday.

There are alternative ways to celebrate this huge milestone for those parents that don’t care for a messy, cake smeared baby. Why not bring along something special that is meaningful to your family? You could bring a special toy or blanket, or even a nostalgic item from your newborn session.

Here are a few more ideas:

Party Hats

A party hat is always a fun prop. It might not stay on for long but I can promise that I’ll be fast enough to get a great shot of this.

Letter Blocks

I love the nostalgia of letter blocks, they always remind me of babies. I love the colors and fun patterns! Naturally I have some at the studio to use.

Special Family Items

You can bring a couple items from home that have special meaning to your family.

Favorite Toys

This is super cute, and it’s great to have a record of what their favorite toy was at this stage of their lives. One day you’ll look back on these and remember that cuddly bunny.
